Seawater Desalination Equipment — Produce Drinking Water from the Ocean

JNDTECH seawater desalination equipment converts high-salinity seawater (up to 45,000 ppm TDS) into safe potable and process water through a high-pressure reverse osmosis (SWRO) process. Built around a multi-stage RO membrane rack, a 55–70 bar high-pressure pump and an energy recovery device (ERD), it delivers reliable fresh water for islands, vessels, coastal resorts, offshore platforms and remote military or mining sites where no freshwater source exists.

How It Works — High-Pressure Reverse Osmosis

Seawater is first pretreated (sand/multimedia filtration + cartridge filter + antiscalant) to remove particles and prevent scaling. A high-pressure pump then pushes the water to 55–70 bar against the SWRO membranes. Pure water passes through the membrane; concentrated brine is rejected. The energy recovery device captures pressure from the brine and feeds it back to the feed, slashing power consumption. Finally, post-treatment (remineralization + UV/O₃) adjusts taste and safety before storage.

Seawater RO vs. Standard (Brackish) RO

A common question: can a normal RO unit desalinate seawater? No. Standard brackish-water RO (used in our Pure Water Treatment Equipment) runs at 8–15 bar and cannot overcome seawater osmotic pressure. Seawater desalination needs 55–70 bar pumps, seawater-grade membranes and energy recovery — a different machine class. Choose SWRO when feed TDS exceeds ~10,000 ppm; choose brackish RO below that.

Q1: How salty can the feed water be?

Our SWRO units are designed for seawater up to ~45,000 ppm TDS (typical ocean water). Higher concentrations need custom design — contact us with your source analysis.

Q2: What is the energy recovery device and why does it matter?

ERD reclaims pressure from the brine discharge and reuses it to pressurize incoming feed, cutting total energy use 30–60%. It is essential for economical seawater desalination.

Q3: Is it containerized or fixed?

Both. We supply 20 ft / 40 ft containerized plug-and-run units for mobile or remote use, and skid-mounted fixed plants for permanent coastal installations.

Q4: What pretreatment is required?

Standard: multimedia/sand filtration, cartridge filtration and antiscalant dosing. Very turbid or algal water may need additional clarification — we specify based on your water report.

Q5: How is the output made drinkable?

After RO, optional remineralization restores healthy minerals and UV/O₃ sterilization ensures microbiological safety, giving stable, palatable drinking water.
